Tuscan
decor is a simple, yet rich decor, inspired by the old-world charm of
Tuscany. This Italian aesthetic incorporates the rustic elements and
earthy tones of the surrounding areas blended with classic lines and
innovative design.
One appealing facet of Tuscan decor is its dedication to incorporating
both indoor and outdoor aesthetics. The feel and look of lush vineyards
and hearty soils are brought into the home through color and design.
Another element within Tuscan design is its optimum use of smaller
spaces. Objects and structures are all within close proximity to one
another. This use of space allows for a common simplicity and softening
of light among Tuscan homes and buildings.
The ambiance of Tuscany is reproduced through the lighting, which captures
the charm of an outdoor bistro coffee area or an evening of wine tasting
in the garden. Newer styles leave windows uncovered, as natural light
is more important to this style of design than to others. Above all
else, these rooms invoke a warm, but open, airy feeling.
Tuscan design revolves mainly around these areas in the home:
• Walls and ceilings - Very often the walls in a Tuscan home
are painted with a soft white or grayish color. These colors are embellished
by the use of natural items like stone and wood. Ceilings play a large
part in decorating with Tuscan decor. These ceilings often are made
up of a dark, heavy wood, invoking natural elements to the room.
• Furniture- Furniture is typically very simple. It includes
straight lines and sharp corners. It also is made of an unfinished,
rugged wood in an effort to promote the outdoor ambience into the home.
• Floors- Timber in a Tuscan decor home could go from floor to
ceiling. Wooden floors are the most attractive and intriguing elements
to these homes. The wooden floors are usually made up of wide wooden
planks that are unfinished and create their own kind of mood. The floors
are solidly built, but not completely finished in order to keep a old-world
charm throughout the home. Some floors, however, are shaped from smooth
stones, which again invoke the rustic moods of Tuscany.
