Tropical bedroom decor brings the natural island world from outside the home into the bedroom, creating a breezy and worry-free area. When you set out to create your own refuge at home, there are decorating elements to consider:

• Natural lighting - Natural light plays a vital role. Allow natural light in by using only simple, light-colored curtains or by using wood blinds that can open.

Sheer netting may be hung over the bed from the ceiling to create the look of mosquito netting used in the tropics.

• Simplicity -- Tropical bedroom decor reflects the color schemes of island bungalows. For example, cream, white, taupe and tan may be the main colors simply because they are neutral colors. Brightly colored accents such as throw pillows or paintings on the wall add a splash of color in a calm and refreshing atmosphere.

• Tropical Accessorizing- Accessorize with plant fronds, shells, flowers, starfish or native island items to create an authentic tropical haven.
