of Trellis.
A
trellis is a structure designed to support growing plants such as sweet
peas, ivy and grapevines. These structures are usually made from wood
or metal, but also can be bamboo.
Trellises are designed to fit in a variety of areas at
different heights, widths and shapes. Finding the appropriate trellis
will rely mostly on the area in which you want it placed.
Next, adequate light and water should reach the trellis.
Positioning the trellis near a sprinkler or waterline will depend on
the type of plants one plans to grow on the trellis. Additionally, positioning
on the south or southeast area of the house will provide the most light.
The northern side of the house usually receives the least amount of
light and may be appropriate for certain plant-life.
A trellis can also become part of a larger structure such
as an arbor, arbor with bench or arbor with full seat. Adding a trellis
can depend largely on the type of structures purchased. Wood trellises
are usually interwoven and may or may not look natural next to another
structure particularly iron. Bamboo tends to work well with a variety
of structures. Iron or metal structures provide the most agreeable mix
of materials; however, they absorb the most heat as well and are not
ideal for flowers or plants that do not need a lot of sunlight or heat.
