The right shades and blinds for a home does more than add to the decor of a room, but also utilizes incoming light to be more efficient.

There are three basic types of lighting: ambient, task and accent. Proper use of shades and blinds can help in each of these areas:

• Ambient- Ambient lighting provides a mood to a room. Whether you want sunny and well-lit or dusky moods, you can set your shades and blinds to match.

• Task- Task lighting provides light on one area in order to perform a task with that light. Desk lamps are usually the best option for task lighting, but outside light can also highlight a desk or reading nook area during the day.

• Accent- By adjusting your shades and blinds, you can accent certain features and parts of your home and decor.
