Room
furniture can speak to patterns, color schemes and motifs of a room
or be functional and durable. Great pieces of furniture, however, can
do both. When choosing furniture for a room, keep in mind some of these
tips:
• Always remember the amount of traffic in an area.
Soft woods and white material can be stylish and elegant, however, for
those with children or many guests, room furniture should be durable
and practical too.
• Show off those legs! Couches, beds and most furniture
have some lovely features and woodworking on room furniture legs or
the feet of the structure. Show these off by keeping linens off the
floor and by directing attention to the area where the object meets
the ground, such as with an area rug.
• Reflect your inner tastes and dreams. Remember
a room is only as good as your interest in it. If you want funky or
wild, go for it. You can always choose accent pieces or focal pieces
that speak to your unique style and avoid clutter or confusion with
multiple and contradicting pieces. Find neutral colors to accent bright
items, or use subtle, simple shapes to compliment your bright colors.
