Modern home decorIf you look through an old catalogue of “modern home décor,” you are likely to find what appears to be simply a bunch of old furniture. The thing is, at one point in time it actually was modern.

It is difficult to say what exactly “modern” is. What is modern today, could be out of style tomorrow. So, instead of trying to define what modern home décor is, it may be better to understand how you can use this décor, regardless of when it originated.

• Plants are timeless – Plants are as old as the earth itself, but they are still capable of being incorporated into modern décor as well. The important thing to focus on is figuring how each plant will blend into its surroundings.

• Create focal points – Creating a single focal point in each room of the home can be more effective for you visually and financially. Visually, providing the person who enters the room with a large centerpiece will allow them to fix their eyes on one object. The choice of smaller décor you use in the room can accentuate this one centerpiece.

Creating a focal point can also be a financially sound decision. Often, people tend to want to create many different focal points in one room. Not only can this be confusing to a person’s eyes, but it definitely isn’t easy on your wallet. Spending a lot of money on a lot of different centerpieces is needless and unwise.

• Triangles – In a traditional home you are likely to see many pictures either strewn about in various places or lined up in a straight and boring fashion. A more modern practice includes the use of triangles.

As you walk into your home, notice where your eyes naturally take you. This is where you will want to make your triangle. While the triangle itself is invisible, the items that make it up will not be.

Often people will make up these triangles with things like photos or works of art. By clustering several in one space in a certain design, people’s eyes are drawn toward it.

•Furniture - As far as the furniture goes, if you want to catch the “modern” look according to what is modern right now, look for items which are in color. Avoid loud colors. Instead, choose more subtle ones such as shades of cyan, magenta, or aqua.

After the color has been chosen, keep in mind the phrase “less is more." Most “modern” furniture is quite simple. Some might describe it as a little box-like in design, with corners that are tight and don’t include a lot of cushioning.

Modern home decor items are also on the small side. That means that they are "adequate" as opposed to "large" as far as size is concerned. They fit enough people on them, but not a large amount of people.

Perhaps the main way that a person can incorporate modern home décor in their home is to simply be original. Style always comes about simply because someone was brave enough to try it first, so you never know, you could be a trend setter.

Be creative in your thinking and re-organizing and soon people may come to you for modern home décor tips.
