Marble
is a very attractive and durable material that can be used for many
purposes around the home. A type of metamorphic rock, it develops from
either limestone or dolostone into a variety of colors.Types of marble
are often named after the quarries from which they came. Some notable
types include: Carrara marble, Fauske, Macael, Makrana, Parian marble,
Rouge de Rance, and Yule.
Historically, marble is an important element of classical sculpture.
It was a preferred material for many Greek and Roman sculptors and architects.
For this reason, use of marble has come to be a signifier of traditional,
refined tastes. If you desire that appearance as part of your home decor
but have no interest in purchasing a full marble effect, consider an
item that makes use of faux marbling. Cultured marble is another option
which is less expensive but can have more tensile strength.
