Lamp lighting can be a very functional affair. In some homes the built-in lights aren't efficiently focused where you need them or may not even be reaching some locations at all. Buying a table lamp or floor lamp or an adjustable clip-on lamp may be the solution to this problem.

It is helpful to also remember that lamp lighting can serve decorative purposes in additional to practical ones. When walking through an art gallery or museum, you may notice lamps on the ceiling or mounted on the wall which highlight specific artworks or historical pieces. Consider using a strong source of lamp lighting to direct the eyes of visitors to your home in the way of objects that you would like to highlight. Gentler lamp lighting from lamps with lamp shades may also subdue a cluttered environment by not creating strong lighting contrasts.
