Designing a garden is not as easy as planting seeds. You have to find the design that fits you. Irish garden design is a type of arrangement that surrounds the house or is contained in a large space. It consists of shrubs, perennial plants and natural or man-made materials. Although Irish gardens are usually situated in a large, outdoor area, you can still have your own Irish inspired garden in the corner of your yard by having the right Irish garden decorations.
Irish garden decor is essential in bringing the Irish ambiance to your garden. Putting reading benches along the passageway or placing statues of kneeling angels or leprechauns can enhance an Irish atmosphere. Choosing rich green plants with bright flowers will go well with a gravel or stone walkway placed around the garden. Also, planting long lasting flowers and shrubs will make your Irish garden more vivid.
Every garden is made of a wide variety of plants. With Irish gardens, decorating and growing the right plant is very important. Planting Holly is great for it grows in any type of soil. Its green thorny leaves and red berries are popular as Christmas decorations. Holly can be invasive so you should place it in an open area or in a corner of the garden. You can plant an Irish yew in an open field but make sure it’s out of reach to children for its berries and bark can be poisonous. Planting Irish yew is good because of its tolerance to drought it can still grow in well drained soil. You can also grow it as a hedge and it is best for making garden sculptures.
Adding flower bearing plants is one of the main details in Irish garden decorating. Growing white clover will go well with evergreen surroundings. White clover, also called Irish shamrock, is a long lasting plant that grows year after year. Just make sure it is in the part of the garden where the soil is well drained, moist and directly exposed to the sun. This type of plant will be passive in winter but will bloom again in spring.
Aside from white clover, you can also decorate your Irish garden with flowers like the ox eyed daisy, bellis perennis or commonly known as the English daisy, yarrow and the lesser celandine which is a low growing plant with dark green, heart shaped leaves. These flower bearing plants require less maintenance and will look good along the walkway. Irish moss is a very good ground cover, with its little white flowers in evergreen leafage you can plant it almost anywhere and it will not wither in direct sunlight. You can also add lacy fern to give your Irish garden variety and depth.
Aside from flowers evergreen shrubs is also a good Irish garden decoration. Like the Holly and the Irish yew, brooms, gorse or furze, privet and guelder rose is excellent for topiary and building hedges.
Ireland, despite of its size, made a major contribution in the world of garden style. Irish garden design has come a long way from 17th century to 21st century modern gardens.
