Your bedroom is the one place that you truly start and end your day.
Therefore, you really want to make sure that you have bedroom
furniture that you do not simply like, but bedroom furniture
that you love! Of course, this is easier said than done. Here are
some tips to help you make sure that you pick out the bedroom furniture
that is best for you!
The Bed
Let us just start with the singly most important piece of bedroom
furniture and aspect of your bedroom – the bed. After all, the
bed is what the bedroom is named for, right? The key with the bed
is to make sure that you get one that is the right size for you! Most
likely, you are not going to want a twin bed in your own bedroom.
If your bed is the resting place for only one person, a full size
bed might be the perfect size for you. But if you are sharing your
bed with another, you are likely going to want at least a queen size
bed, and maybe even a king size bed. Before you buy a king size bed,
be sure to make sure your bedroom can handle such a large piece of
bedroom furniture!
When thinking about what style of bed to get, consider first whether
or not you want no headboard, a headboard, a headboard and footboard,
or a sleigh bed style (with the headboard and footboard attached).
I suggest that you have at least a headboard, because it can really
add a lot of style. But if you consider getting a bed with a footboard,
too, make sure that the bed is big enough. For some men (and some
women) a footboard is not a plausible option since they are so tall
they need their feet to hang off the edge.
Dresser vs. Armoire
As far as bedroom furniture goes, you are likely going to need at
least one or the other, because most closets are not big enough to
hold all of your stuff. If you have room, you should definitely get
both. Otherwise, think about what sort of clothes you need to store,
or if it is other items that you need to store, instead.
If your closet is not quite big enough for everything you need to
hang up, then an armoire might be perfect for you. Many armoires come
with the option of shelving or a clothing rod, as well as drawers.
Besides, an armoire often has a presence that most other bedroom furniture
does not.
A dresser is the perfect place to store your personal items as well
as folded shirts and pants and socks. Without a dresser, you will
just have to put these items in boxes and throw them in your closet.
As far as dressers go, you will, however, have to decide whether to
get a vertical or lateral dresser (or both). A vertical dresser is
great if you do not have much space in your bedroom. A lateral dresser
is wonderful because it has a long top that you can display photos
or other items on (do not use the top of your dresser as another storage
space! Use it for decorations, only!)
When picking out a dresser, be sure to consider the depth of the
drawers. If the drawers are too deep, you will likely never wear again
the items at the bottom of the drawer! You want to make sure that
regardless of whether or not you are getting a dresser or armoire,
you are getting a piece of bedroom furniture that will help you organize
and store your clothing and other items.
The Nightstand
Never underestimate the power of a nightstand! Yes, nightstand may
seem like a meager piece of bedroom furniture, but it can truly be
quite handy. Be sure to get a nightstand with at least a drawer, and
maybe even a cabinet. A nightstand is the perfect place to store odds
and ends that do not seem to fit elsewhere. Besides, you need to have
some surface to put your lamp, reading material, and alarm clock on.
Other Items
If your room is big enough, you may want to consider other bedroom
furniture, as well. Why not add a lounge chair or loveseat? You want
to make your bedroom as comfortable as possible. Be sure to use any
bedroom furniture that you think will make your bedroom more comfortable.
Sometimes extra pieces of bedroom furniture that help you organize
items can make your bedroom more comfortable, because such pieces
of bedroom furniture help you keep your bedroom clutter-free!
Whatever you do, be sure to have fun picking out and using your bedroom
furniture!
