Ever
wish you were someone like Cleopatra? You could be in your bedroom,
surrounded by sculptures, carvings, and artifacts. Servants would
feed you grapes while you lay in bed. Egyptian bedroom décor
can help you get this feeling (except for the grapes, that is).
While decorating a bedroom with real relief carvings, etchings and
statues could tend to be kind of expensive, there are fortunately many
different kinds of replicas that can be purchased for much, less money.
When people choose to use Egyptian bedroom décor, it is usually
all or nothing. There is nothing subtle about having relief carvings
of Egyptian gods and kings surrounding you. In choosing which kinds
of carvings or sculptures to use, it may be wise to first get an understanding
of what each of these kings, queens, or gods represent.
For example, the jackal-looking god, Anubis, represented the West,
because that is where most jackals roamed. Egyptians believed that
the West was the best place to be buried. So, for those who don’t
mind being reminded of death on a daily basis, this might be ok, for
others it may not be.
While much of the items used for décor in the home now were
not used for decoration in ancient days, that doesn’t mean that
there were not some items that are used for decoration both then and
now.
A prime example of this is the eye of Horus. This item was used
on rings, necklaces, and bracelets. It was also often used in mummy
wrappings as well as wall reliefs.
