In today’s hectic world, many people seek to simplify their lives. One way to achieve this is through the use of contemporary furniture. Many consumers relish the clean, simple and modern sensibility of contemporary furniture.

Contemporary furniture has escalated beyond just the steel and glass signature look. While these materials are still used, there are other materials that evoke an updated contemporary décor. Some of these include:

• Dark woods – some woods are even painted black, such as with Asian inspired pieces.
• Light woods or multi-tonal woods such as bamboo or untreated pine are often used in contemporary pieces. These bring the natural world inside.

Clean lines and simple shapes, (often square shapes) were once the only defining shapes of contemporary furniture. While these are still popular, the use of curves in contemporary furniture is a revitalized design, often paying homage to a retro style.
